• Crude Oil Desalter packages
Crude oil transported to a refinery will typically include various impurities like water, salt, and solids. The salts are of particular interest in a refinery as they’re a major source of corrosion, and also foul refinery equipment downstream. A crude oil desalter package is therefore typically required at the refinery inlet for dehydration and desalting.
The DOC Energy Desalter will be an electrostatic Desalter package. The electrostatic desalter will be supplied complete with mix valves, specialty internal grids, a special transformer, a transformer hookup assembly, and a grid hookup assembly.
Although DOC can supply other electrostatic desalter technologies, the preferred technology will be AC dehydration. With this technology, the field applied to the vessel emulsion will be an Alternating Current (AC). This field will be applied by a specialty power unit, and through the vessel grids. Inside an AC electrostatic field, the water molecules are polarized and a dipolar attraction between the oppositely charged ends of the water molecules is the main driving force for coalescence. As the water drops coalesce, they continue to grow in size until they fall out of the electric field by the force of gravity. Each separated phase is then removed from the vessel by specialty piping internals.
