OIL TREATMENT 

  • Free-Water Knockout (FWKO) packages

A FWKO is a separator vessel that dedicates a relatively longer retention time to the liquid phase particularly for bulk separation of free water. Depending on inlet BS&W of a production stream, a free water knockout vessel may be required at the oil treatment plant or train inlet.

The DOC Freewater Knockout vessel design can be either a vertical or horizontal configuration, and will include all instrumentation to maintain the process and mechanical operability.

The FWKO vessel size is dependent on:

  • Retention time
  • Oil/Water density
  • Vessel Operating and design pressure
  • Slug volume
  • Client footprint area availability

The DOC Energy FWKO design also includes vessel internals as required to provide a process guarantee. At the minimum, a standard inlet device, a weir plate and a demisting device will be included for the larger FWKO vessel sizes.

DOC vessel designs can also include retrofit clips to match client specific vessel internals as necessary.

  • 3-Phase Separator packages:

A 3-phase separator is typically installed upstream of an oil treatment train or facility. The purpose of the 3-phase separator is to provide primary separation of the production stream, prior to further dehydration downstream.

The DOC 3-phase separator vessel design can be either a vertical or horizontal configuration, and will include all instrumentation to maintain the process and mechanical operability.

The 3-Phase separator vessel size is dependent on:

  • Retention time
  • Oil/Water density
  • Vessel Operating and design pressure
  • Slug volume
  • Client footprint area availability

The DOC Energy 3-phase separator design also includes vessel internals as required to provide a process guarantee. At the minimum, a standard inlet device, a weir plate and a demisting device will be included for the larger 3-phase separator vessel sizes.

  • Crude Oil Dehydrator packages

Crude oil dehydrators are installed downstream in an oil treatment train or facility to achieve dehydration specification prior to injection into a pipeline, or transportation to a refinery.  The crude oil dehydrator can be a 2-phase (preferred) or 3-phase vessel depending on application. DOC Energy has two offerings for crude oil dehydrator packages:

  • Mechanical Coalescer package: For higher spec oil treatment, the DOC energy mechanical coalescer will be the preferred offering. The mechanical coalescer will include specialty internals grids, specialty piping internals, and a grid hookup assembly to provide the required surface area necessary to meet the treated oil specification.
  • Electrostatic Dehydrator package: For lower spec oil treatment, the DOC energy electrostatic dehydrator will be the preferred offering. The electrostatic dehydrator will be supplied complete with specialty internal grids, a special transformer, a transformer hookup assembly, and a grid hookup assembly.

Although DOC can supply other electrostatic dehydration technologies, the preferred technology will be AC dehydration. With this technology, the field applied to the vessel emulsion will be an Alternating Current (AC). This field will be applied by a specialty power unit, and through the vessel grids. Inside an AC electrostatic field, the water molecules are polarized and a dipolar attraction between the oppositely charged ends of the water molecules is the main driving force for coalescence. As the water drops coalesce, they continue to grow in size until they fall out of the electric field by the force of gravity. Each separated phase is then removed from the vessel by specialty piping internals.

  • Heater Treater packages

DOC Energy offers heater treater solutions for oil, water and gas separation in low pressure applications where heat input into the process is required. The heater treaters can be supplied fully skid mounted and complete with all instrumentation for safe shutdown and restart of the heating system.
